Heisey Collectors of Texas Study Club

YES VIRGINIA, THERE IS HEISEY IN IOLA, TEXAS!

On January 11th 2014, fifteen members of the Heisey Collectors of Texas met at the home of Sim and Betty Lucas near Iola, Texas.  Nestled halfway between Bryan-College Station and Madison, Texas, the club members were treated to 29 acres of rolling Southeast Texas farmland complete with a 3-acre pond.  The panoramic view from the den windows outside was exceeded only by the beauty of the Heisey glassware displayed inside.

After a brief business meeting it was off to discover the Heisey displayed inside.  Of note, a pair of #1493 World candlesticks with an unknown cut, a #433 Greek Key 21 inch buffet plate, a pair of #27 Daisy candlesticks, two black Heisey by Imperial Rearing Horse Bookends and a drawer full of Heisey Stoppers just to name a few!

A talking Christmas tree and two displays of Heisey with Christmas decorations completed the tour of the home.

Sim’s program featured a talk on the multiple uses and names of some of the Heisey stoppers and covers, complete with examples from catalogs and reference materials from his extensive reference library.

Show and Tell featured a #1252 Twist Individual Nut in Marigold, #439 Fatima Ash Tray in Crystal, #1183 Revere Individual Salt in Crystal with a Hawkes floral cut, #1500 Bull’s Eye Ashtray in Crystal, #1521 Quilt Individual Ashtray in Crystal, #1488 Kohinoor Bridge Ashtray with Match holder, # 1503 Crystolite 1qt. Rye Bottle with #107 stopper, #1503 Crystolite 11 inch Cake Salver footed, #462 Plain Hexagon Basket in Crystal with unk cut, pair #1503 Crystolite Electric Lamp with 9 inch shade with #915 Amarillo Cut, #1469 Ridgeleigh Stem Saucer Champagne, #1503 Crystolite Nappy with aftermarket metal handle, #1401 Empress 11 inch floral bowl DF, Mayonnaise DF and #135 Candlestick all in Sahara with matching unknown cut.

Then it was off to the kitchen to enjoy homemade chicken salad, drop cookies, chocolate and pistachio pies and peach bread pudding.
